[Fic] Found in Translation
Quick ficlet. I had the urge to write Naoya x Shin. ^ ^
Title: Found in Translation
Pairing: Urata Naoya x Atae Shinjiro
Rating: G
Summary: Over coffee, Naoya and Shinjiro discover something of the power of words.
Disclaimer: I don't know them and I made all of this up.
(Naoya was born in Tokyo, and it's always suited him just the way it is.)

And yes, it REALLY sounded like Naoya and Shin, that's what made it so fun to read. You might as well have been watching a movie of the two of them doing what you wrote, it was so easy to picture. And I'm a really visual person, so it usually takes good writing for me to be able to picture even all the small details I like to try and see. ^_< Thanks so much for sharing it!

I'd like to try and come up with ways to convey Shin using kansai-ben more, but most just look cheesy!

Can't blame people, though. That is troublesome! >< And I like what you did with Shin's speech--I think because we know he's got that Kansai accent, it automatically comes through! ^^

It's tricky. How do you interpret a particular regional accent in a different language? The kansai accents usually seem to appear as southern US accents in dubbed anime, but I've heard it said that something like Brooklyn would be more appropriate.

As for accent interpretation...that really is tough. I agree that I have heard Kansai referred to in a sort of USA Southern Accent in many English manga and anime, but somehow that doesn't seem wholly correct. I mean, Kansai is south of Tokyo, so I can see where the reference came from, and I know there is indeed a distinct difference between Kansai accents and Tokyo ones, but I wonder.......What you had sounded good in your fic. It read well, enough so that I was automatically hearing Shin's voice for the lines. I didn't feel like you needed to stylize it any more--it came through naturally! :D
