[Fic] Found in Translation
Quick ficlet. I had the urge to write Naoya x Shin. ^ ^

Title: Found in Translation
Pairing: Urata Naoya x Atae Shinjiro
Rating: G
Summary: Over coffee, Naoya and Shinjiro discover something of the power of words.
Disclaimer: I don't know them and I made all of this up.

(Naoya was born in Tokyo, and it's always suited him just the way it is.)

Well, I hope it reads okay! I find Shin, in particular, quite hard to write as a character... I can't seem to get a handle on him.

He is a difficult personality, isn't he? :-/ But I'm gonna go read right now...I bet you're fussing over how you wrote him and it's gonna be totally fine (no, BETTER than fine!) regardless!! Lemme go have a read now! :D

Hey there!! Just wanted to make sure my comment actually went through! I posted anonymously on the actual entry, so I know it said it was screened until you could see it. But I do hope you can -- I loved reading it! ^^

...well, LJ decided not to send me notifications about recent comments. *scowls* There were two on my last post that I didn't know about until I looked on the site today as well as yours!

So my apologies for the delay in replying! Thankyou for the lovely thoughts! :D I think I am a 'words' person in stories... I like description and conveying the characters' mental processes (action I find hard for some reason). Most of all I'm glad that this sounded like Naoya and Shin (or Naoya and Shin as far as we know them, or Naoya and Shin if they spoke English).

I see!!! *0* And no, that's okay! I was just glad you had gotten it!! You know, I seem to recall LJ doing that to me before too. -___- Coding issues, maybe!

And yes, it REALLY sounded like Naoya and Shin, that's what made it so fun to read. You might as well have been watching a movie of the two of them doing what you wrote, it was so easy to picture. And I'm a really visual person, so it usually takes good writing for me to be able to picture even all the small details I like to try and see. ^_< Thanks so much for sharing it!

It does it on a regular basis! People are periodically like, "WTF LJ WHERE ARE MY NOTIFICATIONS BITCH??"

I'd like to try and come up with ways to convey Shin using kansai-ben more, but most just look cheesy!

HAHAHAHA!!!! xDDD Somehow when I read that it sounded so American! (Although I just got back from NYC, where I heard such phrases at least once every hour, so that could have something to do with it. xD)

Can't blame people, though. That is troublesome! >< And I like what you did with Shin's speech--I think because we know he's got that Kansai accent, it automatically comes through! ^^

I hate the notifications going down because I worry that someone'll leave me a comment and think I'm being rude and ignoring them. :(

It's tricky. How do you interpret a particular regional accent in a different language? The kansai accents usually seem to appear as southern US accents in dubbed anime, but I've heard it said that something like Brooklyn would be more appropriate.

I know what you mean.... :( But I think if you end up seeing it and explaining that, they would understand. It just all around sucks that there's such a problem to begin with! -__-

As for accent interpretation...that really is tough. I agree that I have heard Kansai referred to in a sort of USA Southern Accent in many English manga and anime, but somehow that doesn't seem wholly correct. I mean, Kansai is south of Tokyo, so I can see where the reference came from, and I know there is indeed a distinct difference between Kansai accents and Tokyo ones, but I wonder.......What you had sounded good in your fic. It read well, enough so that I was automatically hearing Shin's voice for the lines. I didn't feel like you needed to stylize it any more--it came through naturally! :D

I saw Liverpudlian suggested as a Kansai substitute if it were being dubbed in Britain, seeing as Scousers also have that reputation for humor. ^ ^

Oh wow, that would be interesting!! I THINK I'm thinking of the right accent -- I'll go look on Youtube to double check! ^^

Finally got the chance to read this!!! ^o^ It was absolutely adorable! And since it really seems like Naoya and Shinjiro have become more and more close recently, it was a very realistic story! ^_~ Thank you so much for sharing! I like that English is a huge premise in the story.... =P

I liked the story!! It was cute and somehow I liked the atmosphere of it. As if you were just looking at an episode of their lives. ^^d
I liked the part where Shinjirou showed him the note with "A friend is someone who knows everything about you and still likes you" written in it. And Naoya doesn't get it in the beginning, even though the message is really good! And then Shinjirou explains it
>w<~<3

The 'In English' part reminded me on a Japanese commercial with the actress Amamai Yuki (she acted in stuff like Boss or Gold, if you happen to come across that XD). The commercial is for learning English and there is a family eating in the living and the child goes 'okawari!' to their family and so Amami comes to the room and says 'in English, please and then the child says again 'owAri' this time with an English accent! It was so cute! >w

Nearly all the ideas I get for AAA fic are like this for some reason... not long plots, just little snapshots in their lives together. Maybe I'm a lazy writer, or maybe that's just how it's meant to be.

Thankyou!! And the commercial does sound funny! ^ ^

Thank you so much for writing this! There's hardly any NaoyaShin fic out there, and seeing the two of them always gives me warm fuzzy feelings! It's like a Papa and Baby sort of relationship, haha. :p

You're welcome! :D Thankyou!

I'm almost kind of surprised there isn't more fic for them these days. Now that Shin's grown up a bit, they seem to have a forged a really strong friendship.
